Cutest. Argument. Ever.

We were at the local library this afternoon, picking up some books, and getting out of the house (yes, it's still raining!)

Sam and a little girl were sitting in a tent (in the kids' section of the library) when I overheard them having sort of a "boast-off"

She started with "I read this whole page"
Sam: "I can read a whole book!"
Girl: "Yeah, well I'm going to go to kindergarten!"
Sam: "Ooh, I went to kindergarten last year and it was fun! But now I'm going to go to first grade!"
Girl: "Yeah, well I'm going to be turning six soon!"
Sam: "Yeah, well I'm already six!"
Girl: "Yeah, well I'm going to get a pet!"
Sam: "Yeah, well, I may not have a pet, but I've got the best Mommy in the whole Universe!"

Golfers

Well, today is Clark's birthday, and in honor of this special day I'm blogging about his new favorite hobby. Golf. He's gone from the guy who had a set of old clubs sitting in the basement (this was him back in May) to the guy who watches the golf channel for tips, and spends Sunday mornings (and some lunch breaks at work) on the driving range. He's also been getting some pointers from Sam, who is taking golf lessons on Friday mornings, and is becoming a pro at chipping.

We all spent an afternoon at the park a few weeks ago, hitting golf balls. Paul loves to golf too, with what he calls "My golfing driver". Here are a few pictures:

What was that sound?

Saturday night there was a big storm. We were staying at my parents' house. Around 1 am there was a loud noise. Clark accused me of knocking down a lamp. I said "No, that was outside--sounded like lightening hit a tree, or a garbage can got blown over or something." He insisted that it was in the room we were sleeping (which was above the garage). I insisted that whatever it was, was outside. It turns out that everyone in the house heard the noise. And nobody knew what it was. Until the next morning.

It was the sound of a tree landing on a car. My parents' car. It was pretty insane, how badly the car was damaged. But we were lucky, if the tree had fallen at a different angle, it could've taken out all four cars that were parked there. Here are a few pictures.

A weekend with family!

We spent last weekend at Mok and Pa's house, having a nice visit. My grandparents also came, and Mellie and Ryan (and their dog Tini) were there too. We had a great time--I have to say it was pretty cool for Sam and Paul to get to spend time with their great grandparents too. In fact, how many kids can say that they had a nerf gun battle with their great grandparents?!?

Here are some pictures from the weekend:

So many questions, so little time!

Well, I'm beginning to look back fondly on the days when Sam started asking constant questions about everything. Because at least there was only one of him. Now I've got Paul, the king of the hypothetical, and Sam, the king of the unanswerable. (at least with poor Mommy's limited knowledge)

Paul asked me tonight "What would happen if I didn't have a bed?"
To which I replied "Well, I guess you'd have to sleep on the floor."
Which led to "what if we didn't have a house with a floor?"
My answer was "Well, I guess we'd have to sleep outside then."
Then Paul said "But the grass would be itchy and the scary doggies might come get us."
So I said "Well, then it's good that we have a house and a bed, isn't it?"
And Paul said "Why is it good that we have a house and a bed?"
To which I replied "okay, bedtime!"

This group of questions took less than 30 seconds. And Paul is awake for about 14 hours a day. I just did the calculations and discovered that we could have up to 1680 question and answer conversations in a day. Tomorrow I may start counting. Although every once in awhile he throws in a really cute one. Like yesterday when we were driving somewhere and he asked "Oh no, Mommy! Are we stuck in Traction again?" It took me a little while to figure out that "traction" was the combination of "traffic" and "construction".

Sam has been busy asking questions about how things work (only things that Mommy really has no knowledge of) and about things like "If two girls get married, could they have lots and lots of babies, since only girls can be mommies?" Hmm, I'll have to think on how to answer that one--do I go into an explanation of how reproduction works? Or about how Wisconsin passed some kind of stupid gay-marriage-ban in the last election? I guess it's not just the kids who have questions!! (and for the record, I think my response was something about people having the number of babies that they want, although I know that isn't a completely honest answer--but I didn't want to hear the questions that arose from a conversation about infertility or unplanned pregnancies!

Here's a picture of the boys questioning why their sno-cones are so cold:
